Richvale Irrigation District
The Richvale Irrigation District (RID) was established in July 1930 to provide reliable agricultural irrigation to 34,150 acres in southwestern Butte County, primarily supporting rice farming. The district operates 80 miles of open canals and is a member of the Joint Water Districts Board, collaborating with regional water agencies to manage surface water resources. RID relies exclusively on surface water from the Bay-Delta watershed, ensuring sustainable water supplies for its agricultural customers. Governed by a three-member board of directors, RID maintains a coterminous Sphere of Influence with its service boundaries, reflecting its stable, agriculture-focused operations. Through infrastructure modernization and regional partnerships, the district continues to efficiently deliver irrigation water to support local farming operations.
