City Chico

The City of Chico is located in the Sacramento Valley approximately 90 miles north of the City of Sacramento, and is the largest city in Butte County. The Sierra Nevada mountain range lies to the east of the City, while the Sacramento River is located approximately five miles to the west. The City of Chico was founded in 1860 by General John Bidwell, and incorporated on February 5, 1872, with a population of approximately 1,000 persons in an area of 6.6 square miles. Since then the incorporated area of the City of Chico has grown to about 33 square miles, with a current estimated population of 92,464. Chico supports a diverse range of industries including agriculture, recreation, tourism, education, medical, and manufacturing.
